Anonymous asked: Mens are feminist too. Have you ever read about the history of feminism or theories? I'm not trying to attack you I'm just trying to understand if your blog is a personal interpretation on conclusions you have drawn or if you're linking back conclusions to feminist theories.

Anonymous asked: What's your background in feminism and media?
microaggressions:
My writing teacher training class includes an online forum component, where we can hash out issues we don’t get to during class time. One student wrote the following as if it were no big deal:
“Without demeaning African-American English, is it wrong to acknowledge that not everyone speaks AAE and that a student needs to learn another dialect to communicate with a different...

Leave Amber Cole Alone, But Let's Keep Talking
sasheer:
I don’t know Amber Cole personally, but I feel like I know her.
I noticed “Leave Amber Cole Alone” was trending on Twitter this morning, so I sifted through tweets to find out who Amber Cole is. I found a link to a video of a girl pleading in Amber’s defense, and then I found the video everyone was talking about.
Amber is a 14-year old girl who was caught on tape giving a guy a blow...

Anonymous asked: Hello! I'm an young woman working in an area of retail that is usually dominated by men and my (female) manager told me casually that she wants to make my workplace an "all female" environment. If this were to happen she would have to fire several of my coworkers simply because they are no women and she has already started giving more shifts to the girls despite some of them lacking...

urmbrit asked: I find this discussion about women not being the only ones who get pregnant interesting. This is the first time I've heard that statement. Would you care to elaborate?

imfantasyparade asked: What are your thoughts on Terry Richardson? I get scared whenever I hear a woman who's a fan of his. Where are her comprehension-skills? Terry and his work are so misogynist and sexist, it's disturbing how it's not getting more attention that it does. Not to mention, the popularity of Terry, a man who's known for abusing his power-position and molesting young models (some...

John Boehner Is Now America's #1 Boner Killer
The “Let Women Die” bill has indeed passed tonight. I am at an entire loss for words.
In case you do not know what this bill is let me run it down for you: any hospital that receives a single penny from the federal government (yes $0.01 USD) can now legally refuse to give you and/or any other woman the right to an abortion to save your life and hence the name let you die.

Breast Cancer & Breasts (Possibly NSFW!)
Before you read this you should know I am 110% about getting rid of all cancer and breast cancer especially.
But what is the deal with trying to sex up breast cancer awareness? It really bothers me, I can deal with the ribbons being pink because this cancer does almost entirely affects only women (and of course since the beginning of time women love pink!) but when we start sexing up cancer...

Lady Gaga & HIV Awareness
“I hope that young women know that sex is still a big deal, and they don’t have to put out soon. If they want someone to court them for a while before they give it up, that’s wonderful and beautiful, and a man will only respect you more for honoring your body. I am that way.”
Lady Gaga gave an interview about HIV Awareness and her MAC Glam campaign. Sort of just sounds like she’s slut...

bell hooks.
feministslut:
She does not capitalize her name. She does not spell it Bell Hooks but bell hooks. Her reasons for doing that is she wants people to focus on her work more than her name. I’m pretty sure she explains it in either Ain’t I A Woman: Black Women and Feminism or Feminist Theory From Margin to Center.

gettingknowledge asked: I wonder if you have ever seen the TV show Dark Angel and what you thought about it if you had. I read an article saying it was pro-feminism, as the main character refuses to use guns and is presented as more than a one dimensional character that worries about marriage or having children. Personally I am on the fence about said show and its implications. I think it does a lot to stretch standards...

Amanda Knox and the Stigma of the Sexist Media.
silentpunk:
Been seeing a lot of sexist shit about this acquitted woman Amanda Knox. As an attractive, young and female murder suspect she has been getting a lot of attention in the press apparently (I’m so out of touch).
It seems in Facebook and Twitter comments, like in many areas of society, commentators can openly join in with the sexual objectification of this woman while simultaneously...

Some brief thoughts about Amy Pond & River Song
femfreq:
This article “Why This Year’s Doctor Who Finale Was (Mostly) Better than Last Year’s” by Charlie Jane Anders (io9) has some interesting thoughts about River and Amy’s characters.
SPOILERS
“River Song was such a shiny character, full of endless possibility, and she hit her high point in some of the early Matt Smith stories. Jumping out of spaceships in flight, carving messages in...

Fall Premiere Pilot Review: The Playboy Club (F)
femfreq:
Playboy Club (NBC) I don’t really know what to say about this show; it’s everything I expected it to be. Horrible, offensive, oppressive; sexualizing, eroticizing and objectifying women and a white-washed revisionist history. One of the first scenes, of course, utilizes violence: “Bunny” Maureen is shown physically fighting off an attempted rape. What did strike me as...

Anonymous asked: Hello there so I spent like 7 years of my life (age 7-14) in a pretty conservative/sexist/racist culture and I know by heart I am a good person I love everyone and am a huge feminist slut myself but I still have that mentality. Like I never try to be racist but I always mention the race when I am talking about someone even if its a good thing i would say "yeah my black friend said yada yada...
