This is just a personal experience I had. I attend a Community College in New York State, I am a criminal justice major. I am sitting in my Understanding Juvenile Offenders class and there is a current member of the Sheriff’s department in my class, my professor is an attorney and a former District Attorney. She was discussing a case in which a Juvenile (13) raped a passed out 19 year old woman. The teacher was discussing how they caught the juvenile rapist with DNA. She said something along the lines of “Well if he raped her while her boyfriend was passed out right next to her, he obviously did not care enough if he was caught and he failed to use a condom and left semen behind” to which the current police officer said “I mean if you’re going to go through all that trouble anyway wouldn’t you be intelligent and wear a condom? 1. You don’t know what the girl has and 2. COME ON, if you’re going to commit a rape at least don’t get caught.”

To which all his fellow buddies laughed and continued to laugh the entire time the professor was talking. It was my first day in this course and I literally just had to yell “YEAH RAPE IS SOOOOOO FUNNY RIGHT?!?”

I almost had to storm out in addition to the fact that my female professor was sort of victim blaming (she was saying “she was SO drunk and BEYOND unconscious that she could NOT have clearly made an ID and even if she had how would they know she was right.”)
