ideservesomeapplause asked: Before I start, I must tell you that I'm a die-hard, over-obsessed Taylor fan. But this doesn't means that I think she can do no wrong. Hell, of course she will. We all have flaws. But on the other hand, this also doesn't mean I agree with everything you've written about her. I think you're a bit harsh.

My point is... Have you ever heard the song 'Sparks Fly'. While talking about sexism, I think you should've shown this song as an example. It has lyrics like 'You touch me once and it's really something/you find I'm even better than you imagined I would be' 'Get me with those green eyes baby/as the lights go down/gimme something that'll haunt me when you're not around'
English is not my native language but don't you think these lines imply sex?
Oh, and if you agree with me, don't you think this can change her 'forever-virgin' image that you criticize?

I have heard “Sparks Fly,” the official and unofficial version. I honestly cannot believe I forgot the song. I feel rather ridiculous now. I would have put “Sparks Fly” under the “not a feminist nightmare,” because in the song she is owning her sexuality! She is not playing into the “virgin/whore” dichotomy in the song. She is not shaming anyone for being sexual, but owning those feelings. She is not trying to be the “good” girl or shaming others for being the “bad” girl. She is just owning the pleasure she gets for being with her partner. The line “you find I’m even better than you imagined I would be,” implies she is her own person and not the person people assumed she would be. She is enjoying herself and her partner. I wish more of her songs were like “Sparks Fly.”
